Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
1. Enterprise Linux Management
- System Lifecycle: Lead the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux distributions including RHEL (6x, 7x, 8x) and Oracle Linux (6x, 7x).
- Performance Engineering: Conduct deep-dive performance tuning and workload optimization to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
- Storage & Filesystems: Administer LVM, Disk/Volume groups, NFS, and automount; expertly troubleshoot complex filesystem and mounting issues.
- Kernel Diagnostics: Configure and analyze KDUMP/kernel dumps to perform root-cause analysis (RCA) on system crashes.
2. Automation & Modern Infrastructure
- Infrastructure as Code: Drive operational efficiency by using Ansible, Puppet, or equivalent tools for configuration management and deployment.
- Virtualization: Manage and build customized VM templates using VMware vSphere to support a dynamic virtual environment.
- Hybrid Cloud: Support and manage integrated cloud services including AWS (EC2, S3, VPC, ELB, and Route 53).
3. Security, Networking & Compliance
- Vulnerability Management: Proactively remediate and mitigate security vulnerabilities through structured change management.
- Network Administration: Manage IP networking, static routing, and core protocols (FTP, SSH, SMTP, DNS, DHCP).
- Access & Identity: Handle client-side LDAP configurations and troubleshoot user authentication issues.
- Security Guarding: Maintain and configure host-based firewalls (IPTABLES/Firewalld).
4. Operational Excellence
- ITIL Leadership: Act as a technical lead for Incident, Change, and Problem Management, providing detailed RCAs for P1/Critical tickets.
- Hardware Ownership: Coordinate with vendors and manage physical infrastructure (HP ProLiant, Dell PowerEdge) and SAN/NAS storage connectivity.
- Patching & Monitoring: Oversee enterprise-wide OS patching cycles and leverage SNMP-based tools for proactive system monitoring.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: 6+ years of relevant technical experience in a corporate Data Center environment.
- Linux Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Red Hat Satellite Server, RHN, and subscription management.
- Automation Mindset: Proven experience moving from manual tasks to automated workflows (Ansible/Puppet).
- The "Plus" Factor: Knowledge of secondary Unix flavors (Solaris, HP-UX) and SAN/NAS storage concepts.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional documentation skills and a "continuous improvement" mindset. You should be a self-starter who can lead through ambiguity.
- Certification: RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) is highly preferred.
